Nairobi, Kenya – May 7, 2025

Mystery Publishers Limited, a leading Pan-African independent publisher of choice, is thrilled to announce the launch of Kipepeo Readers, an exciting new brand dedicated to children’s and young readers’ books. Named after the Swahili word for “butterfly,” Kipepeo Readers embodies transformation, growth, and the joy of discovery, aiming to captivate young minds with culturally rich and imaginative stories.
Kipepeo Readers is designed to inspire and empower the next generation of African readers and beyond. The brand will feature a diverse collection of picture books, chapter books, and young reader books that celebrate African heritage, universal themes, and the power of storytelling. With a commitment to quality and inclusivity, Kipepeo Readers seeks to provide young readers with stories that reflect their experiences, spark their curiosity, and encourage a lifelong love of reading.
“We are incredibly excited to launch Kipepeo Readers as a platform to nurture young imaginations,” said Y W Wamuyu, the Editorial Director at Mystery Publishers Limited. “Our goal is to create books that entertain and resonate with children and young adults, offering them mirrors to see themselves and windows to explore the world. The butterfly symbolises the transformative power of stories, and we can’t wait to see young readers soar with Kipepeo.”
The inaugural lineup of Kipepeo Readers includes A Little Nap by Y W Wamuyu and Felistas Thairu, the first in The Misdaventures of Ema and Lo series, which will be published on 20 May 2025, and The Ogre of Sebet by Kathryn Langat, published in 2021.
A Little Nap is written to sensitise young children, in a gentle and imaginative way, about the dangers of climate change and how it leads to suffering such as periods of drought. The writing also showcases a unique part of African storytelling—riddles that create an engaging, interactive experience, making the story even more immersive.
The books blend vibrant illustrations, compelling narratives, and authentic African perspectives. From tales of adventure and friendship to stories that explore identity and resilience, these books are crafted to engage readers of all ages. Mystery Publishers Limited is collaborating with talented African authors, illustrators, and editors to ensure that each Kipepeo Readers title is a celebration of creativity and cultural pride.
In addition to print editions, Kipepeo Readers will leverage Mystery Publishers’ expertise in digital publishing to offer e-books and interactive content, making stories accessible to a global audience. The brand also plans to partner with schools, libraries, and community organisations to promote literacy and reading programs across Africa.
To mark the launch, Mystery Publishers Limited will host an event on a date to be communicated later. The event will feature readings, author discussions, and interactive activities for young readers and their families. Details of the event and the full Kipepeo Readers catalogue will be available on the Mystery Publishers website at www.mysterypublisherslimited.com.
Join us in celebrating the launch of Kipepeo Readers and the beginning of a new chapter in children’s literature.
