Mystery Publishers’ Code of Ethics aims to drive professionalism, quality, excellence, and the highest standards of ethics as we help you publish your story your way, build your author brand, and interest your readers.
- Quality First: During the publication process, we put quality first for the benefit of both the author and the reader. This means that we don’t publish books for the sake of it; we look for quality, original, and powerful writing. We do not engage in vanity publishing.
- Statement of Belief/Neutrality: We believe that everyone should be treated with respect and dignity regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. We support every individual’s right to live free from discrimination and prejudice. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome and valued. However, we do not publish works that aggressively condemn or promote/advocate for LGBTQIA.
- Integrity: As a Pan-African publisher of choice, we aim to serve the African writing and reading community. Thus, we follow through on our promise of quality and professionalism. We target an informed and empowered audience; thus, we don’t spam, oversell or harass authors to buy our services.
- Value: We offer quality author services so our authors can professionally tell their stories, build their (author) brand, and grow a dedicated reading community. We dedicate our time and resources so our authors get value for their money.
- Honesty: We clarify our services (what we can and/or cannot do) and how they compare to others for self-publishing writers, highlighting any excluded service which a client might reasonably expect to be included.
- Unity of Effort: We inform our authors about their role in the publishing process and involve them in the publishing process, from manuscript evaluation, editing, cover design, copyright registrations, book distribution, and other aspects.
- Communication: We keep authors informed each step of the way during publishing.
- Author Support: We provide helpful and timely information to authors at all stages of publication and beyond, facilitate authors to get access to any necessary ancillary information and guide them on everything that is expected of them.
- Empowerment: We empower our authors about self-publishing and navigating the waters and we give back to the African indie author community where possible through different initiatives.
- Transparency: We ensure that all terms, including pricing, are accurate, complete, and transparent to all. We build trust and loyalty with our customers by presenting pricing and other terms in a clear and easy-to-understand format on our website. Pricing is displayed as a total cost, fixed fee, cost per unit, or unambiguous price range. If quotation pricing is necessary, our website shows indicative example pricing where necessary.
- Kaizen: We continuously research and improve our publishing process to keep up to date with the dynamic global publishing industry, including but not limited to trends, technologies, economic changes, legal implications, etc.
- Fairness: We act in a fair and balanced way when carrying out our duties, without discrimination based on gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religious beliefs or political beliefs.
- Timeliness: We handle submissions and enquiries promptly.
- Confidentiality: We treat all author information, manuscript(s), and other material as confidential.
- Sustainability Statement: We are committed to a sustainable future and improving the community’s social, economic and environmental well-being.
