The 2019 African Writers Conference

The African Writers Conference is an event conceptualized by the African Writers Development Trust aimed at bringing together writers of African descent to a common platform, building bridges for networking, providing opportunities for writers to promote themselves and their work, and sustaining conversations on the advancement of the collective interests of African writers.
The 2019 theme is Cultural stereotypes in African Literature: Rewriting the narratives for the 21st Century Reader. It will feature a keynote speaker from Cameroon and three panellists from Nigeria and Kenya.
The objectives are:
- to provide a gateway for continuous engagement and cross-interaction on the issue of culture and its stereotype in African Literature,
- to promote cross-cultural discussions that will lead to the development of literature on the African continent,
- to foster mutual understanding for peaceful co-existence and develop strategies for the development of the African literary space, and
- to identify shared values and how to advance it against our differences.
Features of this conference include a cultural night, interactive sessions, group discussions, networking, the unveiling of the winners of the 2019 African Writers Awards and much more.
